Serenity – a romantic wedding invitation from the Wild & Painterly collection

Today I’d like to show you my favourite invitation from the new Wild & Painterly collection with the wonderful designer Amy Swann.

Serenity evokes the romance of long, summer days; an invitation designed with love, featuring the beautiful illustrations of Amy Swann and your names in gorgeous calligraphy.  The illustration is dreamily subtle, combining stunning florals in delicate watercolour with handwritten calligraphy.

Serenity was the first invitation Amy illustrated for the Wild & Painterly collection, and we think it’s perfect for a spring or summer wedding where pastel tones and greenery are key; a whimsical, magical celebration of love and romance.

The beautiful Serenity invitation is available in my online shop from today, and prices start from £3 per invitation.
Add a matching RSVP card and hire me to write your envelopes in romantic, modern calligraphy for the perfect finishing touch.

Introducing Wild & Painterly – a wedding stationery collaboration with illustrations by Amy Swann

Throughout January I have been working with my lovely friend and wonderfully talented illustrator Amy Swann on a brand new wedding invitation collection.

The Wild & Painterly collection is the first full suite of wedding stationery we’ve worked on as a team, having collaborated on illustrated stationery designs with calligraphy for many photoshoots in the past.

Amy’s enchanting floral illustrations form the basis of each invitation – there’s everything from bluebells to hydrangeas, beautiful peonies, roses and gorgeous greenery in the collection. Each invitation incorporates romantic, flowing calligraphy for your names – handwritten by myself and then scanned into your personal wedding invitation design.

Today I’m sharing a sneak peek of the full collection – each design is already available to buy in my online shop. Over the next few weeks I’ll be introducing each design in the collection individually with a closer look at the design details and story behind each one.

We’re also launching a competition to create a semi-bespoke design which we will add to our collection in spring – details to be published soon!

We hope you love these invitations – we’re so proud to be launching our first collection and looking forward to working with brides and grooms in 2017 and beyond!

Autumn, boho wedding calligraphy inspiration

I love the part of my work which takes me on adventures, introduces me to inspiring people and expands my calligraphic horizons! Back in November I was at Graythwaite Estate for a styled wedding inspo shoot, and I’ve just received some beautiful images from one of the lovely photographers who was on the course that day. I loved it… from the moment I arrived I was welcomed and made to feel a part of the team – very much thanks to lovely Berkshire photographer Hilary Binns who came and sat with me while I wrote on bird boxes and plant pots for the photoshoot!

Hilary is a a wedding photographer based in Berkshire, who absolutely loves travelling and would be thrilled to go to the ends of the earth to photograph an awesome wedding! She’s a wonderfully friendly, generous (thank you for sharing your beautiful images with me, Hilary!) and has sent me these gorgeous pics to share with you on the blog today.

You can discover more from Hilary at Binns Photography here:

These photos of me at work make me smile – I love how I turn into a calligraphy turtle, all curled up and focused on my lettering (but oh, my posture!!!) – and it’s a wonderful reminder of an inspiring, creative day with a fantastic group of people. There’s a full credit list for all of the suppliers involved at the end of the feature.

A little sneak peek – beautiful stormy calligraphy invitations for 2017

One of the most amazing things I’m asked to do is create new stationery designs for styled wedding photoshoots. One of my last in 2016 had a fabulously moody and dark aesthetic – a key wedding trend for 2017. I can show you a sneak peek of the calligraphy, but that’s (almost) all I dare, until the shoot is officially published in the New Year.

A top quality online calligraphy workshop

It’s taken me many months to put this online calligraphy workshop together, which means you can be confident you’re getting the very best when you sign up for the course. I’ve taught many beginners how to write beautiful modern lettering, and the online workshop includes everything I share with them as well as questions I’m asked by students when I teach.

The six week calligraphy workshop includes…

The online calligraphy workshop comprises six video tutorials, each from 5 – 10 minutes long. There are downloadable worksheets for you to print and copy, suggested exercises to help you learn each stroke and letter, and even ideas for practice inbetween tutorials. A new tutorial will be delivered via email every week for 6 weeks!
We begin with the very basics: where to find the best supplies (you’ll need a pen, nib and ink to begin) and how to make those first strokes of calligraphy on the page. By the third week you’ll be writing a full alphabet with the help of downloadable worksheets and cheat sheets. By the end of the course you’ll have tried your hand at some inspirational quotes (with my help and advice for creative layouts), brush pen lettering and more.

Pulling together a photoshoot to inspire brides and grooms is such a wonderful challenge. When a wedding blog as amazing as Love My Dress chooses to feature the results, it feels incredible. Early in 2016 Jamie and I had an idea to create a photoshoot with a moody aesthetic, something indulgent and creative but set apart from the pink, fluffy pastels in the wedding magazines.

We came up with the concept of the artisan bride, a beautiful, creative young woman whose art was inspired by the world around her – and whose home was the Lake District. Working with a team of my favourite people in the industry, we put together a shoot with the most amazing florals and carefully curated statement pieces: a cake with stormy icing and bold flowers; a floaty, ethereal dress; artistic and romantic hair and make up – and of course as much calligraphy as I could use throughout the day.

“Claire has been producing artfully written wedding calligraphy for a number of years now but has recently rebranded as By Moon & Tide Calligraphy. I adore the name, it really seems to capture the spirit of Claire’s work, which has been so beautifully documented throughout this photoshoot by Vickerstaff Photography.” ~ Annabel, Love My Dress

Annabel writes, “I used to dream about becoming a Calligrapher. I don’t think I have the delicate hand capable of producing such exquisite work, but I can still admire the beautiful written art that fills these pages. I adore these images too – they seem so perfect to share at this time of year – all those deep, robust Autumnal shades. I hope you enjoy browsing through these gorgeous photographs as much as I have…

So thrilled to see my calligraphy on Love My Dress!

This week has been… there aren’t even words for how busy. Well – since we landed after our little explore / musical adventure in Amsterdam! But today has turned out pretty overwhelmingly amazing – I’ve seen beautiful Rachel & Dan’s wedding over on the fabulous Love My Dress blog!

I worked with lovely Tebbey & Co. to create hand lettered stationery: invitations, table name cards, oh and some oversized slate pieces with menu and order of the day. I LOVED this project and it’s wonderful to see the full wedding published online.

The photography is divine: Melissa Beattie is so very talented and her fine art style is pure heaven. She captures every detail with thoughtful and feminine images which will last a lifetime for her lucky brides and grooms.

The flowers were fabulous – as always from lovely Kevin at Brackens of Bowness. The cake is sweet, simple and perfect by The Bakery at No4. And Rachel’s dress, veil and shoes are just so prettily feminine they take my breath away. The little Flower Fairy cards as table names were printed by Amoretto, and were so gorgeous to write on!
