It’s a long shot, but if Gordon Ramsay ever did a show called Ramsay’s Calligrapher Nightmares, he would NOT be happy with me. And it’s because of the baubles I write people’s names on.
If you’re not familiar with Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares it’s that programme where he goes into a restaurant, changes everything and transforms the place into a thriving business. Although the handful of episodes I’ve seen, we’ve always googled the place after and… it’s never been good. But that’s beside the point! Back to calligraphy, and why I suspect Gordon might not be especially happy with my baubles…

Reason 1
Gordon likes to look at the menu in all the restaurants in his Kitchen Nightmares series, and inevitably he’ll ask “why are you serving so many different dishes?”
You see, a clever and competent chef will focus on creating a few really fabulous dishes, and doing them exceptionally well.
An inexperienced chef will have dozens of ideas, a menu as long as their arm and give customers hundreds of choices. But it’s an almost impossible challenge to create so many dishes all at once.
And I’m an ideas person. Now – don’t get me wrong: my personalised baubles are all painted with so much love and care, every single one is finished by hand, and the design and calligraphy have to be as perfect as I can make them – every time.
Luckily, I’m not a chef working to a twenty-minute deadline: I can spend longer perfecting your baubles. (Each one is a few hours’ work.)
But I do have a silly menu for my baubles, meaning for my customers there’s a LOT of choice.
Gordon would not approve of this at ALL.
He’d ask me (he might shout) to refine my collection to a handful of favourite baubles and focus on those.
But I already mentioned that me and Gordon aren’t close, so I’m going to ignore that and show you – proudly – my entire collection of personalised baubles!

Reason 2
In case you forgot, this blog post was all about a celebrity chef. I don’t particularly like Gordon Ramsay – the side of him I’ve seen on the telly at least. Seems a bit of a show off, shouty, too much of a temper. Nah. We’re very different people. Baubles to Gordon.
