I can’t believe this – but it’s been 10 years since this personalised family tree print first appeared on Not On The High St. I’m super proud of it, and while the illustration by my lovely friend Amy Swann is timeless and utterly enchanting, the calligraphy style needed an overhaul. Earlier this week I grabbed my calligraphy pens, wrote a sample in my favourite flourished calligraphy and took some photos of the finished tree to add to my online shops.
The original personalised family tree is 10 years old!
I can hardly believe it’s been 10 years – we sold our first family tree in November 2015!
Modern calligraphy was a relatively new concept when this family tree was introduced, and since then my style has changed, evolved and grown. I say at all my calligraphy workshops that I’m still learning – and it’s so true. My letters evolve on a monthly or even weekly basis. (Just this afternoon I’ve been experimenting with a new ‘t’ flourish on a compliments slip I’m sending out with a bespoke poem! (It’s exciting to me…)
I hope all of your grandmas and granddads, mums and dads will love this little update. I lose track of the number of 70th, 80th and 90th birthdays I’ve rushed this design out to – always a joy, and to know that somewhere, a beaming grandma is reading through all the names on her new family tree, is pretty special and kind of surreal!
