Wedding calligraphy pricing

I like pies. A lovely photo of me happily sitting next to some little pies, while writing calligraphy. By lovely Cara at Paper Green Creative

What does ‘pricing from’ mean for your wedding calligraphy order?

I want to be completely transparent about the details.

Wedding invitation design can be super simple: calligraphy only would be £95.

Example: You email me, say you’d like invites in calligraphy, no illustration, just gorgeous swirly letters in a fabulous colour, and you have about 20 words in calligraphy to be written. That’s simple: the price for your design will be £95.

If you’d like illustration, something hand painted and detailed, it will of course cost a little more.
If your invitations have more than 20 words, it will cost a little more too.

Printing your wedding invitations from £3 each.

I’ll have your invitations professionally printed on high quality card, with blank envelopes. £3 each. That’s nice and easy. If you want gold foil, or wax seals, or any little extras, it’s a little more. (Not hundreds: I’m not a monster! Just a little more.)

Names in calligraphy on your own invitations from £1.50

If you have your invitations already, I’ll add names in hand calligraphy for £1.50 (e.g. Joe and James) If your names are longer (e.g. Lord Joseph Hollingsworth and Doctor James Rush), it will cost a little more.

Here’s a few examples to guide you:
  • Joe and James £1.50
  • Joe and James Ashton £2
  • Joe Sheffield and James Ashton £2.50
  • Joe, James, Emily and Oliver £2.50
  • Mr & Mr Joe and James Ashton £3
  • Joe, James, Emily and Oliver Ashton £3
  • Mr & Mr Joe and James Ashton, Emily and Oliver £4.50
Envelope calligraphy from £4

Envelope addressing is £4 for UK addresses on unlined white envelopes.

If your envelopes have dark inner linings, or if you’re sending them overseas (and the addresses will be longer), then they’ll be more. This is because the way I write them is different. A white, ivory or pastel envelope with no lining will usually be see through when you hold it up to a window. I address wedding envelopes in calligraphy using a Lightbox and a piece of paper with guidelines drawn on. The Lightbox is a little desk with a light inside it, which shines through the envelopes and allows me to see the guidelines. It means I don’t have to rule pencil guidelines onto your envelopes, or rub them out once the ink has dried.

If you have dark  or lined envelopes, which you can’t see all the way through when you hold them up to a window, it means I will need to rule faint lines in pencil to write them in calligraphy, and erase those lines 24 – 48 hours later. This has to be done accurately and carefully, so the price is £5 for lined envelopes. Addresses which include countries (e.g. United Kingdom) are an extra £1.

Table plans, seating charts in calligraphy

Table plans can be simple calligraphy with 40 names, or illustrated by hand with 300 names.

I’ll charge by the hour, and I’m always happy to give an estimate of cost before you decide.

My starting price is £150 for a seating plan chart all on one board.

I can also write individual cards per table for seating plans. These are £15 each and are perfect for sticking to mirrors or wooden backdrops, for example.
