My life by the sea inspires me every single day. Earlier this year I was asked by lovely Olivia Bossert and Joanne Fleming if I’d like to write some calligraphy for a coastal photoshoot, and of course I said yes. The Cornish coastline where the shoot took place is one of my favourite parts of the country, and memories of walking there last summer inspired the pieces I wrote for Jo and Olivia.
I love that wedding styling has a wider scope than the bits and pieces you ‘should’ have for your day. In fact, I’m all for having nothing that’s expected and everything that’s different. So including antiqued love letters alongside gorgeous mixed florals is right up my street. Writing as art takes hand calligraphy a step away from run of the mill invitation styling, and I loved having the wild and windswept coastline as my inspiration for the stationery.
Neither is a ‘typical’ bridal gown really my thing. The exquisite lace and dreamy colours of Jo Fleming’s gowns take my breath away. Everything about this shoot – not least the stunning images – captures my heart. Here are just a handful of sneak peeks for you to see. The full shoot will be featured on one of the world’s best wedding blogs in a few weeks’ time.

I was thrilled to be asked to take part in a styled shoot with wedding creatives in Kent recently. The concept was exciting: a bridal shoot with a haunting story of timeless romance – and the plan for the day meant lots of wonderfully soft colours and gently flowing calligraphy.
I designed and lettered an invitation suite on the palest grey stationery: a glorious dove grey with ink a shade or two lighter to give the perfect contrast and create a soft look.
Table stationery was simple: place names written in a delicate and modern script, using only first names and allowing the letters to be drawn out for effect – my favourite calligraphy style for 2016.
The star of the show as far as my lettering goes was the love letter – a romantic quote from Wuthering Heights. Again the pale grey stationery is perfect for evoking a romance which lasts for eternity; the letters have a characterful slant and the ink is barely there, as if our love letter had been read a thousand, thousand times.

I have already begun stocking up my Etsy shop for 2016 with some fabulous showcase invitation collections and examples of my calligraphy services. The latest addition to my collections for 2016 is an autumnal wedding invitation design with matching accessories: it’s entirely handwritten in a fabulous scarlet ink, and can be illustrated with autumn leaves to suit your wedding style. The invitation suite was unveiled at Lowther Castle in October, at a styled shoot with some of my favourite people!
These fabulous images are from one of my favourite photographers, the amazing Melissa Beattie, at Aspire Photography Training.
One misty October morning we arrived at Lowther Castle for a styled shoot including a wedding tablescape with calligraphy, invitation suite, hanging backdrop and more.
Everything was styled by Yasmin from Aspire, who is supremely talented at creating beautiful seasonal wedding themes – and she’d truly excelled herself at Lowther Castle.
The cake was a stunningly simple showcase design; the flowers were amazing and our models were all so ridiculously good-looking… being a part of this shoot was incredible. I will be sharing images on the English Wedding Blog soon – in the meantime though, I wanted to show you a sneak peek of the day through the lens of Melissa Beattie Photography – to be followed by more images of the new calligraphy wedding invitation suite which will be for sale in my Etsy shop very soon.
