Calligraphy projects – April

I keep hearing that we should all be blogging more… and to be honest, I take so many pics of every commission and calligraphy project which leaves my studio, I should be kicking myself for not blogging and sharing them with you!

Whether you’re learning calligraphy or just curious about what a calligrapher gets up to on a daily basis, I hope my blog will inform and entertain you as I – hopefully – share all of my projects here as they leave the studio.

April was busy with custom projects – a handful of family trees now with a new proof process before I despatch anything (it’s kind of lovely to get feedback before anything goes in the post).

The first draft of that Quaker Marriage certificate (which eventually had a floral border and banner illustration added)

A bespoke Quaker wedding certificate with ivy and forget-me-nots which was a dream to write.

calligraphy workshop
The classroom at Manchester Craft & Design Centre, all calligraphy-workshop-ready!

A calligraphy class in Manchester, with a lovely group including my youngest ever student (and her mum!) – Kiera was a star and wrote me a gorgeous gift tag to say thank you. It’s hung up in my studio now 🙂

Calligraphy commission in a formal lettering style (sideways on my screen! oops!)

Two bespoke on the day stationery sets with place names, table plans, table names / numbers, and calligraphy signage – one couple chose a modern style with dusky pink lettering; the other opted for a more classic copperplate calligraphy, with black ink on watercolour paper.

Gorgeous place names from Strawberry Sorbet

More new wedding invitations for the English Wedding Blog – our shop is growing, and invite samples are in demand, which is nice! (I have a dozen or so invitations designed which still aren’t on the website – time just flies!)

Place cards for the fabulous letterpress brand Strawberry Sorbet – these were a last minute order and a dream to write!

Another sideways image! Custom calligraphy for an Italian wedding editorial photoshoot

Samples for wedding editorial photoshoots which were sent to photographers in Italy and around the UK (so exciting!)

Walking adventures in the Lake District 🙂

We also had a few little breaks, first to Kielder Observatory (recommended for stargazers and geeky folks!) and then to Edinburgh and Manchester for concerts.

And more press features, which is always wonderful. My calligraphy made brief appearances in Wedding Flowers and Accessories magazine (thanks to lovely Anneli Marinovich for sharing these images on her social media), the Wedding Community blog, Selvedge magazine, Love My Dress blog, Your Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding magazine, and the brand new Lakes and Cumbria Wedding magazine.

Crazy I know, but I actually wrote a few of the articles in here, and organised the cover photoshoot! That image by Camilla Lucinda Photography is just divine…

Coming up in May…

It’s my birthday month, so there are a few playing out days planned… but also a calligraphy workshop at the end of the month, wedding orders for tags and table plan cards, more invitations to be printed, and hopefully calligraphy kit sales after a little relaunch… watch this space!
