I’ve been writing some little quotes in calligraphy, partly for practice and to list in my online shop. This one really resonated with me – the sentiment is wonderful and I found it fitted my own story like a glove.
My home is Cumbria: the Lake District, the quiet coastal villages and towns, and little spots outside of tourist hotspots where it’s tranquil, undisturbed and feels unchanged for centuries.
And for a time, I couldn’t find my way home.
I used to dream I was running through woodlands. (I didn’t run in real life.) Those dreams kept me going through dark times when I felt lost and utterly lonely.
I held tightly onto those dreams, and to the feelings of running away, and immersing myself in nature.
Eventually, I was able to come home.
Those dreams were the light in my heart. A tiny nugget of hope, and belief – even if I didn’t feel it in my waking life – that I’d have a safe home one day.
And so this little quote, which I’ve written in calligraphy, holds more meaning than you’d think 12 small words could convey.
