Colourful, celestial wedding styling featured on English Wedding

This photoshoot was close to my heart, so I was thrilled to be able to feature it on English Wedding. A gorgeous, kind, fun and brilliant group of wedding creatives from Cumbria* and Lancashire, some owls, the sweetest model couple and a barn filled with the most incredible florals from day through to dusk.

*I guess we’re from Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness now… bit of a mouthful at this end though.

The deep purple card was fabulous with moon gold ink, and the floral illustrations sat beautifully alongside the calligraphy. These were sketched in pencil and drawn by hand.

Ash from In The Meadow Floral Design brought everyone together, dreamed up the concept of starry skies and colourful, rich styling. Hannah Hall Photography captured it beautifully. Everyone worked SO hard it was a real pleasure to be a part of this. I stuck some bits of cardboard on a door and photobombed every table shot with a table plan card or a calligraphy menu. (Only joking – I spent a couple of days beforehand measuring up and writing all of the cards for the wedding calligraphy, which I’m actually super proud of!)

Calligraphy menus can be written on any colour card I can get (try me!) and prices start from £10.

I could talk all day about how incredible all of these wedding creatives are. If you need a recommendation for a florist, photographer, cake designer or wedding stylist, do ask! I know exactly who I’d recommend for wedding hair and make up, and for content creation, fabulous headpieces and a relaxed, friendly wedding dress boutique. And if you need owls… Alan (Ellen) and Esther played their parts beautifully! (Alan was a bit naughty doing a poo on the floor and then perching in the rafters… but if I could fly I’d be up there too.)

I LOVE writing these scroll place names. Eleanor might just be my favourite name this week – that curly curvy decorative E just flows!

Holesfoot is an amazing venue, tucked away in quiet rolling hillsides in the middle of nowhere, with a cute courtyard garden and nature all around. Get married there – it’s ace. And book Hannah Hall to take the photos – she’s one of the very, very best Lake District wedding photographers.

More on calligraphy table plan cards and scroll place names coming soon! If you’d like a quote for wedding calligraphy, please get in touch!

Individual calligraphy table plan cards were pegged to rustic twine and hung on the gorgeous barn door with spring flowers to decorate
I used a modern version of copperplate calligraphy, with added flourishing and a little more pressure for the downwards strokes, to create a lovely contrast with the deep card colour. The last little details were painted with a brush and twinkle prettily in the sunlight.
The wedding stationery suite I created especially for this editorial. A calligraphy envelope with illustration, handwritten menu, table plan cards and scroll place name cards all help set the scene for a gorgeous wedding!
A little close up of the calligraphy details…
Wedding envelopes should always be interesting… and for your special people, a little illustration for wow factor on the doorstep when invitations arrive!
Curly beautiful calligraphy and corners. Scrolls add texture and elevate place settings. Groom is my second favourite name at the moment… 😉
In good company! The cake by Kelly at Wren Cake Design was incredible – I’ll add a photo to show you. Debbie worked SO hard on the table styling and every little detail was just perfect. If you’re reading, I’ll reward you with the insider knowledge that the wine was vimto!

Holly and Liam were the loveliest couple – I had no idea these shots were being taken, and I’m so pleased to see them reading my menu! I hope they weren’t hungry…
Eagle eyed people might notice all of the calligraphy sample menus I write have plant based options, no meat or fish. It’s just my favourite, and I love dreaming up imaginary food!
The most exquisite table styling and an unforgettable, uniquely beautiful photoshoot with the best people.
