Commissions

For fifteen years I have been writing bespoke calligraphy commissions for anniversary gifts, wedding presents, retirements, graduations, christenings and more.

Often this is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase so every single order is given the utmost care and attention to detail.

I want you to be delighted with your calligraphy commission, and to enjoy a seamless ordering process.

“I have received the poem in the post today. Thank you so much, it truly is beautiful. I am sure Sarah will be thrilled when she receives it next weekend. You have a fabulous gift, your work is so fabulously presented and it has been a real pleasure doing business with you. I will certainly come to you again for more bespoke pieces in the future and I will certainly recommend you to my friends.”

How to order

To order a calligraphy poem as a gift for someone special, please send me a copy of your poem and ask for a quote.

Prices for calligraphy commissions start at £75.

The calligraphy commissions I’m hired to write are words you treasure, and the writing process is performed diligently, with respect and meticulous care.

“This is Kathy, and many months ago you customized the Apache poem for a wedding gift for my sister and her new husband. It was so beautiful and I wanted you to know how much they LOVED it! They were both in tears. I’m so sorry for my very late thank you. I hope you are staying safe and healthy! All the best, Kathy”

I’m often asked, “what if you make a mistake?”

The answer is simple as can be: I start again. Every calligraphy commission has to be perfect so a slip of the pen, a comma in the wrong place or a misspelling means a swift trip to the recycling bin and a fresh start.

Having said that, my friends at school would call me a walking dictionary. I can spell – really well! – and I’m trained in proofreading so it’s incredibly rare for me to make a spelling or grammar mistake, and as I proof read every calligraphy commission before it leaves the studio, you can rest assured your precious poem will be flawless.

How to commission your calligraphy commission

As the starting point for every calligraphy order is the wording itself, so email is the most appropriate means of communication.

At first, all I need is your words and any ideas you have for the size and colour of your calligraphy order.

I can then provide a price, with no obligation.

If you’re happy with the price, I’ll suggest some calligraphy styles and flourishing, illustration or embellishment for your commission. I use 23 carat gold leaf and coloured inks quite often: these add a special touch to poems and are very popular.

When you’re 100% happy with the design elements we’ve agreed, I will provide payment details and begin work on your calligraphy commission. You’ll be given an estimated date for completion and despatch, and I will notify you when your calligraphy is on its way to you.
