Date: Saturday 20th October 2018
Time: 1 – 3.30
Place: Manchester Craft & Design Centre (northern quarter)
In this exciting new calligraphy workshop we will learn how to use two tools – a traditional pen holder and metal nib, and fabulously creative brush lettering pens.
The basic technique of modern calligraphy applies to both: it’s all about flowing movements, and contrasting thick and thin strokes. But there’s something very accessible about brush pen calligraphy and brush lettering – and we’ll play with brush pens for a good part of the class.
Part of the fun with brush lettering is colour blending – I’ll show you how to paint simple words in sunset colours! You’ll have a selection of brush lettering pens to use on the day – bring a friend and you can swap your pens during the class for more variation in your lettering!
(It’s a very relaxed and friendly class: even if you don’t come along with a friend, you’ll be sat next to someone lovely and you’re bound to make a new friend or two on the day!)
Keep an eye on my Instagram in the run up to the class for examples of how brush lettering can be used to create gorgeous prints and quotes!
Suitable for absolute beginners! You don’t need to have written modern calligraphy before – we’ll start with the very basics including how to hold your pen, and move on to letters and words 🙂
Calligraphy kits are provided – you’ll go home with your very own modern calligraphy set so you can practice at your leisure.
