Hello again! It’s been another wonderfully busy week here with lots going on, so I thought I’d show you everything I’ve been doing in pictures again.

The main project for the week was Jennifer’s wedding reception calligraphy with a vintage rose theme. Jennifer had ordered wedding invitations by Ally Hay and wanted a similar theme for her reception stationery – she asked for my paper rose place names and a matching table plan incorporating manilla card.

The seating plan is entirely handwritten in calligraphy and individual tables are adhered onto a backing board

This was also the first time I’d created wedding table names for the paper rose theme, and they turned out really well. Jennifer’s table names were A6 in size (tent-folded A5 cards) so the calligraphy lettering was larger than usual but worked beautifully with my Gillot 303 nibs.

I received a lovely email from Jennifer – “The table plans etc have arrived and they are stunning!! Thank you so much for doing them and fitting them in.” It was a real pleasure and I enjoyed every moment of making this order! Even twirling dozens of roses for place names around my calligraphy pen while plumber-sitting for my parents was fun.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing images from the wedding on Jennifer and William’s wedding photographer Dylan McBurney‘s blog soon!

I’ve been creating lots of samples for potential calligraphy customers too. Siobhan is having a chocolate brown and Tiffany blue colour theme running through her day, and asked me for a few little samples.

I wrote a wedding menu on chocolate brown card in Tiffany blue ink – it didn’t photograph as well as I’d have liked but I think you’ll get the general idea from these images!

While I had a little spare card and the ink mixed, I made up some little heart place names in the same colours – they’re cute aren’t they?!

Mariella asked me to write some elegant place name cards in gold, so I showed her two different shades: the gold ink I use is quite a brassy colour and I prefer to mix it a little to give an antique finish.

I did some more little heart tags for Sarah, who is looking at different options with navy blue and sunflower yellow – these were such fun, as was writing the navy envelope with bright yellow ink!

Danielle placed an order for classic place name cards in dark blue ink after seeing a similar calligraphy example on my facebook page. She used full titles for key guests which I thought I’d show you as well.

I had a lovely comment on facebook from wedding photographer Cat Hepple, who saw my calligraphy place names – on the spur of the moment I wrote a couple of samples for her and popped them in the post!

Above and below are photos of a calligraphy poem I designed a little while ago. The decorations are paper roses and pearl embellishments with vintage inspired papers and a touch of glitter, and the calligraphy lettering is from Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s ‘How Do I Love Thee?‘

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

These heart name tags were inspired by a calligraphy client – ever so easy to make, and they look simple and pretty in all kinds of colours. The white ink is the icing on the cake! Email me if you’d like a price for these

Another heart shaped tag, this time with a hole punched for some rustic twine and a little paper flower in a complementary colour.

And some more! I sorted the hearts I’d made and written into colour collections, so these are the pastel shades. Plain place name tags are still popular, and these samples were written for Zayda – what an amazing name! The script is Copperplate.

Manilla is a very popular colour this year and I was asked to send two name tag options for Nikkie. She wasn’t sure whether to use luggage tag shaped cards or another style so I had a play with a few little designs to send her samples!

I’ve also been asked to send calligraphy samples to the Etsy Weddings event in London in May this year, which is very exciting. Etsy is a brilliant online store and source of inspiration. I’ve been a fan since beginning to write the English Wedding Blog back in 2009, and now have my own calligraphy shop on Etsy which I’m very proud of.

The samples I sent featured names of wedding magazine editors and bloggers who might just be there on the day – so I do hope they like their name tags!

Hello! This morning I’m sharing some images from a wedding calligraphy order I did recently which I still really love. It might just inspire you if you are looking for wedding place names with a blue theme. These are simple and elegant, with sheer ribbon bows and calligraphy in a matching blue.

The place name cards are all handwritten in calligraphy, and for this order I used a blue ink which was mixed here in the studio. Cards can have little bows or be left plain – the Groom’s card is shown here without the ribbon embellishment. My clients propped name cards into corks for their outdoor reception in the countryside.

As well as the individual place name tags for the wedding reception, my clients asked for personalised signs for the wedding ceremony.

Because the wedding was to be held outside, and guests would be sat on chairs (rather than pews, for example), using these signs was a nice way to reserve seats in the front row for the bridal party.

I’m a huge fan of wedding escort cards as a practical and affordable alternative to the traditional seating plan. Escort cards are easy to make, create beautiful displays (you can’t really go wrong!) and you can change them around at the last minute if you need to so they’re relatively stress-free!

These lovely tags are from a high street range, and come in packs of 8 or so… just be careful if you buy tags from a major retailer which are packed that some might not be suitable – buy a spare pack or two just in case!

The tags can be used as escort cards or place name tags – simply choose to have table names or numbers added to create really easy escort cards.

For place names add jute twine and loop it around napkins or wine glass stems, or even tie the cards to the chairs at your wedding venue (this won’t work if you have chair covers!)

For escort cards use a large mirror or picture frame, and buy mini pegs to attach your cards to ribbons or twine which you can string across the frame (attach each bit of ribbon very firmly on the reverse of your frame!)

The calligraphy shown is in black ink and in my Spencerian calligraphy script. The vintage tag is from Dunelm Mill (would you believe! – many home and department stores have a nice craft range with vintage bits and pieces) and a length of jute twine is attached so the cards can be tied to napkins etc.

Vintage style tags are easy to find or make – look in stationery and craft stores or buy online. Look for gift tags as well as place name cards, as they’re basically the same thing and there are hundreds of design choices available! I love these heart gift tags from Not On The High Street.

One of the biggest new trends for 2013 weddings as seen in magazines and on wedding blogs is ombre. The word means graduating colour, and has inspired some of the most breathtaking wedding flowers, cakes and stationery over the last few months.

These wedding place cards are my first product to feature ombre lettering. It’s a lovely technique to use with calligraphy and involves adding different colour ink to my dip pen with every other letter stroke. These ombre calligraphy place names begin with a pastel red and move through to a purple shade at the end of the name!

Because writing calligraphy to fit an ombre wedding theme is more time consuming, prices are a little higher for ombre calligraphy – please add 20% on top of my standard calligraphy prices if you’d like your calligraphy in ombre! The examples here flow from red through raspberry to a rich fuchsia pink, to purple and a lovely peacock blue. You can choose any shades for your ombre wedding calligraphy: greens and blues work beautifully for a more natural theme, or earthy tones from olive to rust and gold – the choice is yours!
