Calligraphy styles

Because we specialise in wedding calligraphy we offer two beautifully written lettering styles. Only two? Yes – it’s about quality, not quantity. These are romantic styles which fit wedding stationery like the proverbial glove.

Spencerian script

Example of Spencerian calligraphy writing

Spencerian script is a script style that flourished in the United States from 1850 to 1925. Its creator felt that America needed a penmanship style that could be written quickly, legibly, and elegantly. Spencerian Script was developed in 1840, and began soon after to be taught in the school Spencer established specifically for that purpose. [Wikipedia]

Copperplate script

Example of copperplate calligraphy script

The copperplate script uses a sharp pointed nib instead of the flat nib used in most calligraphic writing. Copperplate script was prevalent in the 19th century, but was used as early as in the 16th century in Europe. Its name comes from the fact that the copybooks from which students learned it were printed from etched copper plates. [source: Wikipedia]
